Donalds leads House GOP effort to invoke ‘nuclear option’
As shown in a letter shared with the Washington Examiner, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) has called on Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Friday to invoke the “nuclear option” and abolish the filibuster.
Trump’s urgency to end the shutdown, which began on Sept. 30, comes after new polling shows that the majority of Americans blame Republicans and the Trump administration for the extended disruption. The two longest government shutdowns in U.S. history have been under Trump’s watch.
Trump’s ask comes after U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) asked Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster. She applauded Trump’s sudden directive, writing in a post that “This is what I called for from the very beginning.”
