Damari Alston makes final decision regarding future with Auburn football
Auburn running back Damari Alston elected to redshirt for the remainder of the season shortly after Auburn's 20-10 loss to Georgia last month, and has now made a decision regarding his future on the Plains. Hayes Fawcett of Rivals reported Monday that Alston plans to enter the transfer portal at season's end. Alston confirmed the report on X.
Sumrall sits at the top of the list with a 27% chance to be named the new Auburn coach. Addionally, former Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald and James Madison's Bob Chesney are listed among the favorites at Auburn.
Auburn became the fourth job opening in the SEC following its firing of coach Hugh Freeze, who was 1-5 in league play and 15-19 overall. Auburn's early hot board features several recognizable names for a program seeking its fourth coach since winning the 2010 national championship.
Cohen told reporters that Auburn interim head coach DJ Durkin will “absolutely” get consideration for the full-time job. A final decision on that likely won’t come until the end of the season.
