The avalanche pounded the base camp at Mount Yalung Ri, located at 16,000 feet, on Monday morning. Snowstorms prevented rescuers from reaching the site the same day, but the weather cleared Tuesday and a helicopter landed with rescuers.

Three people have died after an avalanche pummeled through them in Italy’s Ortles mountain today. The incident happened as two groups of hikers reached 3,200 metres in Cima Vertana, a train in the South Tyrol.
